Owen Travers-Clark
Children’s paradise with mirrors – Wandsworth, SW London

Job Specification - Residential

A family with two very young children that wanted their back yard to become a very special place that they would all love spending time in.

Solution Provided
The old stone steps were removed, leaving a flat stony area. A raised deck was constructed which could also contain a concealed sandpit, using diagonally-laid decking for a more interesting effect. To enable pushchair access, a hinged ramp was built by the back gate, and a place for the root systems of fresh new plants to grow in. The plants chosen were easy growing trailing varieties which came up through the deck surface via drilled holes.

The rectangular mirrors played an important part by making the area appear even bigger and brighter, and the yellow paint was chosen as the kids loved to watch CBBC (a young children’s channel with lots of primary colours).

Finally an automatic watering system was installed which made watering the plants very easy and the job was finished by making a new gate from left over decking planks.
